Most people who are suffering from chronic stress are simply oblivious of their condition. This is simply because they do not know or even bother with what are the symptoms of stress. These people are usually conceited people with high egos. They reckon that people who suffered from stress are for those with weak will and weak mind. Nevertheless, stress, anxiety and depression often find their way into people who think too highly of themselves, simply because, these people often give themselves too much expectations that they become overworked and get easily agitated when they cannot meet their own high expectations.

Having said so, stress can become a problem to anyone at anytime. The effects of stress on the body can be overwhelming that the person may eventually lead to severe depression or even suffer from stroke. Many people have their own standards for stress, some people can cope with considerably stress but some people collapse easily with just mild stress. However, all those who suffer from stress have the same symptoms of stress.

Long-term exposure to stress can lead to serious health problems. Chronic stress leads to disruption to almost every parts of our body system. It can raise blood pressure, suppress the immune system, increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, contribute to infertility, and speed up the aging process. In addition, long-term exposure to intense stress can even rewire the brain, leaving you more vulnerable to anxiety and depression.

Hence, it is of utmost importance to acknowledge that your stress levels are out of control. The most dangerous thing about stress is how easily it can creep up on you. You get used to it. It starts to feels familiar even normal. You don’t notice how much it’s affecting you, even as it takes a heavy toll. 

The signs and symptoms of stress overload can be almost anything. Stress affects the mind, body, and behavior in many ways, and everyone experiences stress differently.

Some Symptoms Of Stress:

  • Headaches: Certain types of headaches can be related to stress. If you’re experiencing more headaches, especially tension headaches, stress could be the culprit.
  • More Frequent Colds or Flu: There’s an inverse relationship between stress and immunity, so if you’re under too much stress, you may be getting sick more often.
  • Sleep Problems: There are many ways that stress affects sleep. Too much stress can rob you of sleep and make the sleep you get less restorative.
  • General Anxiety: Anxiety does serve an important function for survival, but if you’re feeling anxious much of the time, it could be because you have too many stressors in your life, or it may indicate a medical condition like generalized anxiety disorder. If you experience an increase in anxiety, you may want to to talk to your doctor.
  • ‘Fuzzy Thinking’: Your body’s stress response pumps your body with hormones that make it possible for you to fight or flee quickly. When triggered in excess, this stress response can actually cause you to think less quickly.
  • Feelings of Frustration: If you’re faced with many demands at once, the natural result for many people is increased frustration and irritability. The trick is to find ways to prevent frustration and calm down quickly.
  • Lowered Libido: Stress can affect your libido in several ways. If you’re too tired for sex, or can’t seem find the time for your partner, this can be due to stress in your life as well.

Do bear in mind that different people exude different symptoms of stress and you must really consult a medical doctor if your symptoms of stress is extremely severe. If you’re experiencing any of the warning signs of stress, it’s important to see a doctor for a full assessment and evaluation.

While unchecked stress is undeniably damaging, there are many things you can do to reduce its impact and cope with symptoms. You may simply be feeling like the stress in your life is out of control and you have difficulty in finding ways to manage stress, but you can always control the way you respond to stress. Learn to let go and stay positive and optimistic if you want to keep your stress levels in check.

Managing stress is all about taking charge: taking charge of your thoughts, your emotions, your schedule, your environment, and the way you deal with problems. Stress management techniques and stress reduction techniques involves changing the stressful situation when you can, changing your reaction when you can’t, taking good care of yourself, and making some time for rest and relaxation and to do things that you enjoy in life.

Truly speaking, you cannot completely eliminate stress from your life, but you can always control how much it affects you. Stress relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercise can activate your body's relaxation response, a state of restfulness that is the opposite of the stress response. If you can make the effort to manage stress naturally with these stress reduction techniques activities, they can lead you to a reduction in your everyday stress levels and a boost in your feelings of happiness and calmness. They also increase your ability to stay calm and collected under pressure. In this way, you can stay away from drugs and medications like antidepressants to control your stress. Remember: You are the one who can conquer stress yourself!
